The first player to reach 5 points (after other applicable rules have been applied) will be deemed the winner of the tiebreaker (hereinafter “tiebreak”).
The winner of the spinning of the racquet (or flipping of a coin) shall choose either which player will serve first or which side of the courts each player will play from.
The loser of the spinning of the racquet (or flipping of a coin) shall make the other applicable choice after the first player makes a decision (if winner of spin chooses who will serve first, the loser of the spin shall choose which side the players play on)
Each player shall serve 2 points and then alternate servers (serve must go deuce then ad courts in that order).
If it is necessary to play a 9th point (score is tied 4-4), the person who served second in the tiebreak (points 3, 4, 7, 8) shall serve from the court of their choice (deuce or ad).
The first serving point for each server will be FBI (first ball in).
It is impossible to double fault on an FBI point.
Each player shall have 1 regular re-do of a point when the appropriate circumstances have been met, which includes:
Re-do is defined as the nullification and replaying of the prior point. (If the score is 1-1 and a point is played (the “Original Point”), a re-do would nullify the result of the Original Point and result in the replaying of the 1-1 point under the same circumstances (e.g. same server, same serving side), provided, however, that the re-do of a player’s first serving point shall not be deemed an FBI point).
As a result of the point, the player who wishes to use the re-do, is losing in the tiebreak.
The player must call re-do prior to the opposing player assuming his stance at the service line for the following point.
A regular re-do cannot be used by any player who has 4 points as of the beginning of the point.
A regular re-do cannot be used on a point which a double-fault has occurred.
Each player shall have 1 double-fault re-do of a point when the appropriate circumstances have been met, which includes:
Double-fault re-do is defined as the nullification and replaying of the prior point where such prior point ended by reason of a double-fault. (If the score is 1-1 and a point is played (the “Original Double-Fault Point”), a double-fault re-do would nullify the result of the Original Double-Fault Point and result in the replaying of the 1-1 point under the same circumstances (e.g. same server, same serving side)).
As a result of the point, the player who wishes to use the double-fault re-do, is losing in the tie-break.
A double-fault re-do cannot be used by any plater who has 4 points as of the beginning of the point.
The only circumstance where a double-fault re-do can be used is on a double-fault.
It is necessary to state “double-fault re-do” when stating you are going to be using a double-fault re-do.
The winner of a tiebreak serves first in the subsequent tiebreak
The players change sides after every two tiebreaks.
In the event that a tiebreak tournament is played, the following rules apply:
Original pairings are conducted at random.
After the first round of matches, a winners bracket and a losers bracket are created based on the results. (If there are four players, the two winners play each other and the two losers play each other).
Tournament style play continues until on undefeated player remains, who shall be deemed Grand Champion.
Grand Champion status lasts until either of the following events occurs:
A new tiebreak tournament of at least four players is played, resulting in a new Grand Champion.
The Grand Champion is shut out in any set of singles or doubles play (6-0).
In the event that doubles play immediately follows a tiebreak tournament, the doubles teams shall be as follows:
The Grand Champion and the player with the worst record shall be team #1 and shall choose whether to serve first.
The remaining two players shall be team 2.
A protest may be filed for a 5 point tiebreak.
The commissioner shall hear the protest after the 5 point tiebreak is complete and determine if the protest is accepted.
If the protest has been heard and accepted by the commissioner, the tiebreak shall have been deemed not to have occurred and stricken from the record.
If the tiebreak begins 4-0 (after other applicable rules have applied) then the tiebreak will end with the winner having 4 points.
There shall be no medical breaks taken within a 5 point tiebreak.
If play is stopped by a player for any medical, toweling, chalking or hydration like activities, the player shall forfeit the 5 point tiebreak.
